History of Jaipur
Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who moved the capital from Amber to this newly planned city. Designed by the Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, Jaipur was built with wide streets and a grid system to facilitate easier administration and defense. The city was known for its unique pink-colored buildings, which earned it the nickname “Pink City” during a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876.
Jaipur became a major cultural and political center under the Rajput rulers, with its elaborate palaces and forts reflecting the grandeur of the era. The city served as an important trading hub and was known for its artisans and craftsmen, contributing to its vibrant markets and rich heritage.
